    (Butterfield Mail) "Over Land via St. Louis", manuscript endorsement at left on circa 1860 orange cover bearing 1¢ blue (24) and 3 ¢ dull red (26) pair and single, all tied by "Los Angeles, Jun 12" and matching circular grid cancels; reduced slightly at left, a Very Fine Butterfield Mail use from Los Angeles.

    (Butterfield Mail) "Overland Mail, Via Los Angeles.", illustrated railroad propaganda design on yellow cover bearing well-centered 10¢ green (32) , deep rich color, tied by clear "San Francisco, Cal. Jun 20, 1859" cds to Rockport Ohio; slightly reduced at top and missing flap, otherwise Extremely Fine and choice.

    (Butterfield Mail) "Overland via Saint Louis", manuscript endorsement at top left on 1860 buff cover bearing 10¢ green (35) tied by sharp "Los Angeles Cal., Jun 11" cds to Clermont N.Y., original letter datelined "Ranco Santa Anita, Cala, June 8th 1860" with interesting farming and vineyard news including talk of the expected return of the 17 year locusts as the last were in 1843, some being spotted near NYC, fresh and Very Fine Butterfield Mail use from Los Angeles.

    Bamber & Co.'s Contra Costa Express, Paid (Pacheco), bold oval handstamp frank (BAM-101) on 3¢ Nesbitt (U10) entire to San Francisco with "Answer By Bamber & Co.'s Express…" boxed handstamp, small " P " initial at top right corner indicating point of origin, Extremely Fine and choice.

    Denver and Rio Grande Express, black frank (DEN-001) on 2¢ green entire to Denver, Colo. entered the U.S. mails with "Den. & Ogden R.P.O. 29 Dec, 1892" railroad post office cds to Minturn Col., Dec. 30th, Very Fine, rare with only ten recorded usages of this frank , ex-Edwards .
