    Special Delivery, 1885, 10¢ blue, First Day Cover, stamp nicely centered, tied by "New Haven, Conn., Oct 1, 1885" on 2¢ brown on white die I (U277) entire to Hartford Conn.; same-day Hartford (10.1) arrival backstamp; couple small stamp flaws, cover with light vertical file fold and portion of backflap missing., Fine and rare.

    *Hartford Ct. was one of the 555 authorized post offices that offered service starting on October 1, 1885. The stamps were available across the country to prepay the Special Delivery fee on letters to one of the 555 towns that offered service.
