Nov 27, oval postmark with "40" ratemarker on 1849 folded letter to Morrisville Vt., interesting miner letter back home to his parents reading " …I have been up in the mines more about two months + half. I have had no good luck mining yet. I have built a log cabbin in the mines where I intend to winter…the mail closed last night & this will not go until the first of Jan…the largest piece of gold I have found weighs $2.50 which I intend to carry home with me. I should not advise anyone to come out here although they make more here than their but it costs a grat deal more to live…with the best places ore dug out in the mines and I expect if we make Eight dolars a day next year it will be as well as we can do… ", transcript of letter accompanies; cover tear, Fine miner's letter.

    Windsor Locks, Ct., Dec 10, bold strike of first type fancy illustrated Steamboat in Lock postmark in red with month in type (Duffney type Ia) and red ms. "Free" rating with ms. "C.H. Dexter, P.M." postmaster free frank on 1840 folded letter to Springfield, Mass., letter in postmaster's hand; file folds, Very Fine and choice.

    A BOLD DESIRABLE EXAMPLE OF THE FIRST TYPE OF WINDSOR LOCKS FANCY ILLUSTRATED STEAMBOAT IN LOCK POSTMARK.

    Alfred Smith, president of the Enfield Falls Canal Company, proposed to change the name of Pine Meadow to Windsor Locks. The Windsor Locks Post Office was opened in 1833 and was located in a store near a grist mill owned by Charles Haskell Dexter. He was eventually appointed first postmaster.

    Cheyenne Dak. Mar. 8 (Dakota Territory), mostly clear strike duplexed with quartered cork lightly canceling 3¢ pink (U59) buff entire with Union Pacific R.R. Office of Superintendent & Engineer of Construction corner card to New York City; small tear at top and some edge wear, Very Fine.

    New Orleans La. Mar. 1, cds with matching large " 10 " handstamp on 1849 blue folded letter to Boston Mass., Very Fine and highly unusual cover, this numeral "10" handstamp was previously used at Vera Cruz, one of only two examples of this marking on mail originating in New Orleans .

    NATCHEZ june*30, sharp straightline with manuscript "25" cent rating on 1807 folded letter datelined "Washington, Mississippi Territory, June the 14 - 1807" to Providence R.I., Aug. 8th receipt docketing, letter concerns wages after leaving Ship John Jay in Bermuda, Very Fine and choice Mississippi Territory use.
