1851-52, 3¢ brownish carmine & claret, type II, exhibit page with singles on three covers, each illustrating the new darker 1852 colors introduced; first, position 30L3, brownish carmine , large to barely touched with huge right centerline margin capture, canceled by black grid, red "New Orleans La. Jul 18" cds on orange cover to Monson Mass., signed by Amonette; position 81L1L, early 1852 claret color that was short-lived, large margins with part of bottom stamp except just in at bottom right corner, tied by bold "Portland Me. Apr 5" cds on orange buff cover to Louisville Ky., ex-Chase (a Chase color collection "varieties of color on cover" sold by Phillips, NYC, in 1950's in as a color example, mounted/protected since then), and third, position 70R1L, unusual very deep shade of the 1852 early claret, margins to barely touched, tied by light black grid, matching "Baltimore Md. Sep 5" cds on 1852 folded letter to New York City, vertical file fold, ex-Chase and plating (sold in same sale as second), an Extremely Fine gem trio.
