    Packet Empress, red oval handstamp on pen canceled 3¢ red (U10) Nesbitt buff entire from the Buchannon Carroll & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., F.-V.F.

    Packet Empress was a sidewheel packet built at Jeffersonville Ind. in 1850. She went to Mobile and ran Alabama Rivers until 1856 when she went to New Orleans. She was burned and lost at Algiers La. on June 29th 1858.

    Packet Rapides, blue steamboat oval on 3¢ pink (U58) entire from the Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., Very Fine.

    Steamer "Rapides" was a sternwheeler built in 1869 at Cincinnati. She ran New Orleans-Red Rivers until she sank 25 miles below Baton Rouge on Feb. 28th 1876.
