Henning, Commissary Sergeant, Perry's Brigade, Anderson's Division, A.P. Hill's Corps, Richmond Va., endorsed " By Flag of Truce " at bottom left, Very Fine flag-of-truce overpaid drop use.

1863, 10¢ blue, large margins, light gum toning, tied by partial "Richmond Va., Aug 30" cds on circa 1864 inner cover from Kentucky endorsed " Via Flag of Truce " with neat military address to John S. Jackman, 9th Ky. Regiment, Lewis Brigade, Breckenridges Division, C.S.A , F.-V.F. through-the-lines cover via Flag of Truce.

Accompanied by 2005 letter from Horace Harrison discussing how this cover was sent from J.R. Jackman of Nelson County, Kentucky through the lines to his brother in August 1864 when virtually all of Kentucky was in Union hands, so anyone writing from there to a soldier in the field had to send by flag of truce.
