  • Lot 592

    1909 Alaska-Yukon Exhibition and Hudson-Fulton Celebration Balance, one binder of approximately 50 picture postcards sent through the mails, these are a mix of the two events, faults to be found, also two small binders of unused Hudson-Fulton picture postcards and one large art-size binder of mounted Hudson-Fulton unused picture postcards, which is beautifully done, F.-V.F. collection.

  • Lot 593

    1909, 2¢ Hudson-Fulton, Cover Balance, choice cover balance from the Haber collection, including 12 First Day of Issue (one is a front only to Germany used with three Washington-Franklin stamps), three First Days are on W.W. Greist fold-out postcards with three different illustrations, one First Day with an illustration of a mill, also uses in the several days following the First Day including two on Celebration postcards, plus a No. 331 on cover with the Hudson-Fulton Celebration yellow label depicting an airplane, a few small faults to be found including on the Greist cards, overall a Very Fine appearing and attractive group, several certificates accompany, Scott value just for the First Day uses with no premium for Greist cards.

    1913 Parcel Post Issue Postal History, group of 27 covers up to the 20¢ value comprising Q1 x 11 items including a small envelope from Hendee Mfg in Denver, Co with nice Indian Motorcycle advertising in right corner, a local-use postcard, a Cleveland Ohio precancel and a couple of pairs. 4 x Q2 including a postcard to Germany and mailer from Photo Stock Co in Baltimore with 2 singles paying 4¢, 3 x Q3 used with a Scott 307 from Auburn, California to Boston, Mass. and Scott 432, 2 x Q4 a single and 2 singles on 2¢ stationary, 5 x Q6 singles used with W/F stamps paying registered or special delivery fees, and Q8 on posts card box front; and finally Q9 on 2¢ stationary and an orange Postal Savings stamp (PS1) on front and a 1¢ W/F on reverse. Uses include domestic/foreign destinations and registered w/ return receipt; some faults, F.-V.F.

    1945-46 Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial Issue FDCs and Uses, mostly mounted collection of over 200 covers, mostly FDCs, including numerous sets by many of the best designers including a Dorothy Knapp complete set cover (one of three known), plus a group of FDCs on WWII Patriotic covers, several covers signed by Eleanor and children, a VE day Patriotic signed by Truman, plus some unusual usages, including a Chinese newspaper (intact) mailed from San Francisco, rare destinations include Spanish Guinea and Gilbert and Ellice Is., etc., A stunning group that took Landau decades to assemble.

    Christmas Topical Accumulation, hundreds of Santa Claus, St. Nicholas and Christmas themed postcards, postal history and ephemera materia. Material ranges from the early 1900's to the 2000's, including from Germany and other foreign countries. Very colorful items including attractive Christmas related advertising items, material sent to or from WWI & WWII soldiers. This accumulation includes U.S. and foreign unused cards, seals on cards, and some early Disney items that are also Christmas related. Everything is already sleeved., F.-V.F.

    Cover Accumulation, 1840s-1900s, large accumulation of 100s of covers, lots of commercial airmail covers to domestic and foreign destinations, registered and certified mail along with a few parcel post items. Some WWII era material but most relatively modern material, a handful of Certificates of Mailing seen with some commemoratives, Prexies on tags, cards paying library rates, and other interesting items, foreign destinations are mostly to Europe. Inspection warranted and treasures will be found.

    "Last Day of Service" Postal Cards plus more, 3,000 postal cards stamped "Last Day of Service" and signed the dates of these cards range form the late 1930s through late 1950s, also includes 2 binders of precancels, US coil wrapper labels in a binders on stock pages, 100+ Utah State Fishing license booklets (1951-53) and some other odds and ends.

    Magazines Posted in the Mails with Postage Dues, Postage, two box lot with 40+ magazines forwarded and a variety of postage due stamps affixed paying the forwarding fee. J-series, commemoratives and definitive stamps used-the Americana, Prominent Amcericas, and Prexies (3, 7, 9, 8, 10 cent values seen) Mostly the 1959 J-Series Rotary Press used. Close inspection will yield some surprises. Also in banker box 125+ oversize Airmail, Certified, Express Mail, Registered and Priority mailers and tags sent domestically and overseas. High values used $1, $2, $5 along w/ Express Mail stamps. Material mailed in the 80's - present day. All sleeved.

    Pension Related Postal History, group of over 40 covers with great corner card advertisements, Department of Interior uses incl. O17 3¢ and O18 6¢ covers, Pension Office postal stationary, an item with a blue circular receiving strike on front from U.S. PENSION OFFICE dated APR 23 1902. Many items mention new Pensions Laws from the late 1800's along with a couple modern items, an item references the War of 1812 and another includes original enclosures. Also a number of items mailed to/from pension lawyers. Viewing will be rewarded.

    Lot 603

    Permit Mail and Business Reply material, 70+ items. Most of the items are without stamps but at least one example of illegal use of BRE envelope included, examples of US and foreign stamps attached paying airmail and certified rates. Great advertising items include Look and Esquire magazine related material. A number of great 2-sided advertising items and some enclosure like a 1910 horse powered cover with enclosure. Interesting ephemera items and a review will be rewarded.

    Postage Due Better Postal History, selection of 14 covers include J17 pair on reduced cover (cat. $700 as used pair); J60 pair on 1917 YMCA post card from Canadian Soldier in Great Britain canceled "Fleet Camp, Grays" to USA marked "Due 4 Cents" duplex, territorial uses include Canal Zone J1& J2; Philippines w/ J1 on American Flag YMCA corner card; Cuba w/J2 x3 a pair and single, each cancelled by purple "Carriers" straightline handstamp on 1900 cover from U.S. with 2¢ #279B, also item mailed from Detroit, Michigan to Balboa, Canal Zone with pair of Canal Zone overprints; other interesting items like JQ1 & J54 combo use on censored 1916 incoming cover from Great Britain, advertising and a "letter returned to the office by the carrier" label on the back of a letter from Britain, etc., some faults, F.-V.F. and interesting group.

Great auxiliary markings related to items shortpaid, forwarding, postage due, etc. Examples of ½¢ due, lots of high value postage due stamps used on items, other interesting items like undeliverable 2nd Class, refused mail w/ labels, incoming foreign shortpaid and multiple redelivery attempts.     Postal History Balance lot, hundreds of US covers, material ranging from 1800s to 2000s, holding includes stampless, strength in Pennsylvania town cancels with many from Irwin Stations and McKeesport. Lot includes foreign destinations, RPO's, Washington/Franklin to include imperf. Airmail material includes First Flights from McKeesport C4's, C11's and a couple of colorful advertising corner cards along with many 1¢ postcards. Binder of 1960's FDCs and two file folders holding modern pre-sorted first class unopened mail of all sizes-great variety. Inspection recommended.     Postal History Items, 1930s to late 1990's, better group of 10+ Fourth Bureau stamps highlights include a parcel post tag w/ Harley Davidson cloth bag item also has COD tag. Prexies to include solo 13¢ paying Special Delivery and 21¢ paying Airmail and Special Delivery. 30+ Liberty Series related items periodicals being forwarded and Special Delivery items. And Airmail Transport items include a USO record being sent with 6¢, and German Prisoner of War letter sheet being sent to Germany using 30¢. Other large items include C9 & C10 paying airmail rate for perishable cut flowers. Some items are also registered and or special delivery. Solo use of 17 cent from APO 251, NY mailed to Texas. Great lot for Prexie specialist. Examples of E16, E17, E18, and E19 used. Some interesting franking combinations used to pay different fees. Foreign originated items with different Special Delivery stamps used. Tags used, including use to mail a pair of socks. Lots of material with Prexies used to pay rates, mourning covers to include a "Special Delivery Notice" instructional label, some WWI related items, some nice corner cards and some very colorful all-over advertising items also some Express Mail.     US WWII Marine Corp Covers, 75 covers. Most items related to WWII. Includes interesting hand stamps like "UNIT DECOMMISSIONED" with pointing finger, items signed by generals, commissioning or decommissioning, Tokyo Bay and cancelled wth "U.S.S SIRIUS" in Nicaragua in 1924.     Lot 614

    US WWII Military Postal History, 86 covers individually sleeved, some with short description. Most of the material from the WWII era but also saw a couple late 1920's items-1 item postmarked "NICARAGUA" and others with ship names. Also a Southwestern US Cavalary item, 1870 cover-B.H. Grierson, the soldier protrayed by John Wayne in the movie titled "The Horse Soldiers." The cover is sent to Ft Sill in Indian Territory. WWII APO's (264, 915 (Christmas Island), 682 (Litwinsky, Palestine), 608 (Khartoum) and others. Some differnt Tokyo Bay covers, submarine related and senior officer material and some hand-painted.
