1857, 3¢ Perf Color Reference Cover Collection Colorized by Amonette, single stamps on 30 covers, each selected for color or centering or quality overall, or all three, colors include: 2 clarets, 3 rose browns, 4 scarcer dull yellow browns, 7 orange red, 2 brownish clarets 8 brownish carmines, 4 identified "in-between" colors. About a dozen XF or better stamps, cancels comprised cds strikes mostly black, plus two in blue and a very fine green Pascoag R.I . coupled reduced, mostly F-VF, VF or better, a Very Fine and excellent color reference collection, a rare assemblage and great reference lot. .

1857, 3¢ yellow brown to brownish claret, Perf Issue - Color Comparison Chart, exhibit page with #25 (1) and #26 (45), based on Amonette approve color standards, following Chase nomenclature, updated by Amonette, W. Hulme, assembled by J. Allen, 46 stamps includes: 6 dull yellow browns, pale to deep; 5 "dull" reds with one bright variety; 6 orange reds, light to deep; 9 brownish carmines, light to deep, "more red", "more carmine" and deep brownish carmine, more brown; 4 rose browns; 9 clarets, one very deep; 7 brownish clarets, many very fine stamps, few faults, lighter cancels, selected for color references, comparisons made on highest density of ink on bottom label, does include scarcer shades and tints of common colors (hues), but not the identified "rare" colors that are in other lots in this sale, also includes stock sheet of 54 singles on front (5 blue cancels), wide variety of stamps, many taken from clean but faulty covers, selected for color, freshness, light cancels and quality that can be used to extend the color chart and/or create new color charts. Few faults on back side of stock page (17 items, good range)., overall Very Fine and very useful for this rather difficult area., a wonderful grouping!

1857, 3¢ shade families, type III, exhibit page with 6 gem color examples on cover illustrating the three major color families; all selected for saturated colors, freshness, and cleanliness comprising Brownish Carmine (Deep, Medium (perf. guideline capture), and Light), Deep Claret , and an "intermediate color," Deep brownish carmine/deep claret, and Deep Rose Brown, all are premium stamps canceled by blue or black town cds strikes, an Extremely Fine exhibit group; all with Amonette certification for each color on back.
