    1857, 3¢ deep claret, type III, exceptionally well centered with rich color, tied by brick red "New Sharon Ms., May 30" cds on lady's cover to Haverhill Mass.; reduced at right, an Extremely Fine gem of the stamp and color; Amonette note "Unusually nice stamp and cancel on ladies cover."

    1857, 3¢ brownish carmine, type III, three singles with gutter stamp capture, each used on cover selected for color and quality. first huge margined 3¢ deep brownish carmine (26) tied by blue "Bordentown, N.J. Mar 16" cds on gem manila bank envelope with preprinted address to Philadelphia Pa; second 3¢ pale claret (26) per Amonette with left stamp and centerline capture in addition to right stamp, tied by blue Pa. Jun. 18th town cds on buff cover to Newton N.J.; and third 3¢ medium brownish carmine (26) per Amonette, left stamp and centerline capture, doubling of LFL, plate flaw beginning over LL rosette, tied by light blue "Ct. Feb. 25th" cds to Colebrook Conn., Extremely Fine and choice trio in uncommon quality.

Mar 11, 1859" cds on manila cover to Macon Ga.; small cover edge tears and bit of flap missing, right stamp with light crease at top, a Very Fine use of this distinctive shade, ex-Hulme, Amonette .

    1857, 3¢ etruscan red and related shades, type III, 6 singles on 6 covers, etruscan red , position 6R24, well centered, tied by "New York, Dec 23" cds on buff cover to Oxford, Mass., Amonette cert on back (Hulme census# on back for this color), fold at top and on right touches stamp, included are 5 other covers with mainly Amonette notes used in the color assessment of etruscan reds in this group. Includes bright brownish carmine , brownish claret , brownish carmine with more red, brownish carmine with more carmine, brownish carmine with more red, range of postmarks including New York City, Albany, Rochester, and Belvidere Ill. on buff covers; stamps mainly Very Fine or better, covers F.-V.F. or better, A great reference group of well above average colors for this rare color group.; Hulme census code on back.     1857, 3¢ corinthian red, type III, intense radiant color matching Ridgway, tied by bold "New-York, Jun 26, 1860" cds on ladies cover to Kingston N.Y., Very Fine and exceptionally rare shade, Hulme census code on reverse; signed Amonette as "Corinthian Red".

    1857, 3¢ types I & III - Rare Shades, group of #26 singles and one #25 featuring a broad range of scarce to rare colors, 9 are off-cover and four on-cover, includes rare Corinthian Red , position 97R25 on cover, rare Deep Morocco Red on cover, rare Orange Brown on cover (x-Hulme and Amonette), and Bright Brownish Carmine, More Red ("not seen with this much red" comment by Amonette), and deep brownish carmines (3), two other bright brownish carmines, two rose browns, one bright claret, and one odd color mix of "deep orange brown and garnet brown, not seen before by Amonette." Nearly all are extremes of color, quality examples and/or rarities on cover, all but two signed by Amonette (based on his, Hulme's and Beale's references) or with his certificate, F.-V.F. and rare shade reference group.
